Alvarado WTP Ozone Expansion | La Mesa, California

The ozone system will allow the Alvarado WTP to expand its daily output of 120 MGD to 200 MGD of clean drinking water. The ozone system technology takes liquid oxygen (O2) and converts it to gaseous ozone (O3) which is then diffused into the water for a controlled time to allow the gaseous ozone to disinfect the water.

Haynes Power Plant Units 5 & 6 | Long Beach, California

The Haynes 5 & 6 Repowering Project consists of the construction of six 100-megawatt natural gas-fired combustion turbines (Units 11-16). All six new generation units have the ability to start simultaneously and deliver a combined 600-megawatts to the grid within 10 minutes. Neal’s scope of work included extensive trenching with large underground duct banks, manholes, pull boxes, high voltage cable pulling and terminations, setting substation and low voltage switchgear and extensive testing and commissioning. This project had continual milestones and target dates that were aggressive.

San Vicente Pump Facilities | Lakeside, California

The San Vicente Pumping Facilities are part of the Emergency Storage Project, a system of reservoirs, interconnected pipelines, and pumping stations designed to make water available to the San Diego region in the event of an interruption in imported water deliveries. Water is pumped to the top of the hill from the reservoir and then flow by gravity through the San Vicente Pipeline tunnel to connect to the Second Aqueduct. The facility has the ability to pump approximately 300 million gallons of water a day. It will include three pumps that each has 7,000-horse power capacity.

Project construction was almost completely stopped due to deficient contract specifications and drawings. Neal Electrical stepped in and became part of the design team working with PCL Construction, and Malcolm Pirnie to “fill in” gaps in the design using our in-house design department along with our experience project manager to avoid construction delays. It also became necessary for the IBWC to accelerate the schedule to recover more than 4 months of lost time in the project schedule due to these design issues when they were not granted a time extension by the Regional Board to the January 2011 requirement to provide secondary effluent up to the Clean Water Act standards. Through working extended hours and Saturday’s for a period of 9 months with PCL Construction, Neal Electric met or exceeded every milestone and system startup required in order to deliver the project on time to meet the court ordered mandate for secondary effluent up to the standards of the Clean Water Act.

Twin Oaks Valley Water Treatment Plant | San Marcos, California

The Twin Oaks Valley Water Treatment Plant is the largest submerged membrane water treatment plant in the world to use membrane ultra filtration technology to purify incoming raw water. At optimum capacity the facility will deliver 100-million gallons of treated water to San Diego County a day, enough to serve up to 220,000 households The facility contains 23 separate structures including two 8.5 million gallon reservoirs along with clear wells, chemical storage and feed facilities, administrative and operations facilities, sludge handling and processing facilities, backup power facilities, roads and parking areas.
